At best traditional balance sheets recognize the value of hidden assets as goodwill. Most companies do not have a line item named goodwill. Even when they do, it is rare for the value of the customer list to be fairly recognized.

Now before you think I am picking on the drug store industry, I am not. There is only one business I have dealt with personally in the last 12 months who does an absolutely great job of communicating with me. Since I am one consumer I am sure there are others.
